Medical
Imaging Research and Device Development

The field of medical imaging has grown significantly
during the past decade. Southwest Research Institute® (SwRI®) engineers are at
the forefront of developing new technologies, such as Raman microscopy and in
vivo fluorescent nano-particle assays, as well as applying existing technologies
to novel applications.
SwRI is an independent R&D firm that provides
assistance in the development of medical devices and systems. With a technical
and support staff of over 3,000, we can put together a multidisciplinary team to
work on all aspects of a project. We manage projects with the understanding that
time to market is critical.
The SwRI Bioengineering Section is ISO 13485:2003
certified and compliant with the FDA Quality System Regulation. We have
experience developing high-quality documentation necessary for 510K, PMA, and EU
submissions.
Expertise
Clients can take advantage of the broad range of imaging
and image processing expertise at SwRI to perform testing and inspection,
conduct experiments, or develop medical imaging devices. To support this work,
SwRI can complete the following tasks:
- Device development from concept to manufacturing
start-up
- Custom image processing algorithms
-
Segmentation
- Tracking
- Automated measurements
- Image enhancement
- In-house testing systems
- Inspection systems
Experience
SwRI engineers have experience developing medical
devices and performing research using the following imaging technologies:
- Microscopy
- Fluorescence
- Raman
-
Scanning electron
- Confocal
- Live cell
- Ultrasound
- X-ray/fluoroscopy
- MRI
- PET
- Infrared/thermal
- Endoscopy
