Transmission pipe rupture test is conducted under combined bending and internal pressure. Initiation is froma simulated corrosion defect.

A test rig including an 8-foot-diameter reel is used to evaluate effects of long-term storage and tension on ocean floor fuel delivery hoses aboard ship. The Institute is the only organization identified by the U.S. Navy as a qualified, independent source for evaluation of flexible piping and hoses.

SwRI research engineers developed two methods to repair polyethylene gas pipe: friction welding and thermo-chemical material patch.
