This SwRI facility simulates stress, temperature, and other conditions in deep sour gas oil wells, and is typical of the kinds of facilities available for studies of material behavior under extreme conditions.

To aid in the study of problems in the drilling industry, SwRI has a 1,200-foot-deep, cased well. Programs involving drilling and workover rigs can be conducted on SwRI grounds.
