Heavy-duty diesel engine benchmarking

An on-road DEC DD15 engine rated at 475 hp (354 kW) at 1800 rpm was tested. The emission control system for the DD15 engine includes cooled EGR, a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), and a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The engine uses cooled, external high-pressure EGR, and an Amplified Pressure Common Rail Fuel System (ACRS). The turbocharger system consists of a fixed geometry turbocharger followed by an axial turbine mechanically coupled through gearing and a fluid coupling to the engine crankshaft.
