Chemical Engineering
The Chemical Engineering Section in the Chemistry and Chemical
Engineering Division develops technology and performs services for the petroleum refining,
natural gas processing, chemical intermediates, and natural products industries. Process simulation,
trial production runs, problem solving, and the production of custom chemicals have been
performed to support government agencies, refiners, and other industries.
To serve these research areas, a full hydrocarbon laboratory is
set up for type analyses, physical property determination, species identification, and
studies related to hydrocarbon utilization such as compatibility, stability, lubricity, reactivity,
and others. Capabilities include measurements on semisolids like wax and
asphalt.
