Using SwRI pilot plant equipment and 200-liter reactors, SwRI chemists carry out the synthesis of a 14-kilogram pilot plant batch run of phase I clinical material.
SwRI has a dedicated computational chemistry-modeling center, including the proprietary Rhodium™ protein docking and simulation platform, TINKER, NAMD, Accelyrs Materials Studio® and Accelrys Discovery Studio®. SwRI facilities feature multiple fully-equipped synthesis laboratories, as well as analytical and formulation labs. Capabilities include parallel reactors (conventional and automated microwave-accelerated) as well as automated purification (normal or reverse phase). Glove boxes and other containment systems suitable for manipulating sensitive compounds are available. Projects involving high potency compounds or regulated materials are welcome. SwRI also operates a pilot plant up to a scale of 200 liters and temperature ranges from -60°C to 200°C. A number of multistep syntheses, possessing a wide range of reaction conditions and diverse reagents have been executed in both the SwRI synthesis laboratories and the pilot plant facilities. SwRI occupies more than two million square feet of well-equipped laboratory and office space in San Antonio, Texas.
