Cylinder head design is among the most complex disciplines involved in engine design. Whether a completely new product design or an upgrade of an existing product, the diverse technologies of compressible fluid flow, heat transfer, combustion, materials engineering, reliability engineering, mechanical dynamics, tribology, and manufacturing engineering must be considered.
The Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) Engine Design Section has assembled an effective blend of analytical and empirical design and analysis tools useful for cylinder heads ranging from lawn- and garden-sized gasoline engines to large industrial diesel and gaseous-fueled equipment.
