2003 Cummins ISX Benchmarking Report

The Model Year 2003 Cummins ISX engine assessment includes the following data:

  • Steady-state mapping at 21 speed/load conditions, including:

    • Gaseous and particulate emissions

    • Fuel consumption and efficiency

    • Fuel injection schedule

    • EGR rates and VGT position

    • Heat rejection

      • EGR cooler

      • Aftercooler

      • Total engine coolant

  • Step-transient tests with:

    • Torque rise rate

    • NOx and smoke opacity

    • Actuator response

    • Injection timing

  • 300-hr durability assessment with:

    • Oil consumption measurement

    • Oil degradation and fuel dilution

    • Wear and additive metals in the oil

  • Engine disassembly and inspection:

    • Critical dimensions

    • Exhaust treatment system description

    • Subsystem and component descriptions

    • Photographs of components

  • Air flow testing of head

    • Port flow coefficients

    • Swirl
