Emissions R&D
Emissions R&D at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) performs research and development on spark-ignited and compression ignition engines that are used in passenger cars, trucks and buses, and nonroad engines such as are used in agricultural and construction equipment. Development work is also performed on large engines including those used in locomotive, marine, and power generation applications. The group specializes in performing programs that address emissions reduction, efficiency enhancement, and improved durability and reliability. The staff has extensive background with a variety of fuels, including gaseous and alternative fuels.
The Engine, Emissions and Vehicle Research Division maintains a number of engine test cells with up to 6,000 brake horsepower capability
