After design and fabrication are completed, the engine or component is tested for reliability and endurance.

Research and development of spark ignition (SI) engines is performed by the engineers in the the Advanced Combustion and Emissions Section at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) who specialize in:

  • Development of gasoline engine

  • Design, development and testing of:

    • Methanol SI engines

    • Ethanol SI engines

    • Other gaseous- and liquid-fueled SI engines

Types of Spark Ignition Engines

SwRI staff has vast experience with:

  • Automotive engines

  • Marine engines

  • Small off-road engines

  • Industrial and aircraft engines

Development efforts directed toward meeting exhaust emissions, better fuel economy, and higher power output have provided SwRI engineers and scientists with a broad engineering base and understanding of spark-ignition engine technologies from around the world.

More than 80% of SwRI's revenue is from repeat business. This indicates our ability to meet or exceed client needs.
