Reference: 03-1225 Client: Commercial Confidential Duration: Twelve Months Rapid advances in small engine technology have produced a wide assortment of new engine designs. Manufacturers of products using these engines must evaluate performance, reliability, durability, and cost of competing engines. As an independent research facility, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) is able to provide unbiased engine evaluations.
SwRI has completed a program funded by a product manufacturer to evaluate six basic engine models. These models represent both domestic and imported engine technology. Both 2-stroke and 4-stroke cycle engines ranging from 2 to 4 horsepower were evaluated for performance, durability, startability at various temperatures, oil consumption, and ability to perform at different tilt angles and directions. Additional testing was done on gasoline and alcohol fuel blends.
Please browse this web site to see the full capabilities and experience of SwRI and the Engine, Emissions & Vehicle Research Division. Then give us an opportunity to become an extension of your engineering department.
For a more comprehensive review of our small off-road engine evaluation program capabilities, or information on how you can contract with SwRI, please contact Terry Alger at talger@swri.org or (210) 522-5505.
