Vehicle Integration Technology

With increasing emphasis on math-based solutions to modern engineering problems and development cycles, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) is strategically placed to offer a depth of experience with vehicle modeling and simulation services. Vital elements of the SwRI Advanced Vehicle Technology section include:

  • Vehicle source code generation

  • Supervisory vehicle control algorithms

  • Vehicle hardware-in-the-loop applications

  • Object-oriented modeling

Vehicle Modeling and Simulation

Modeling and simulation have become integral elements of almost all the section's work activity. Simulation work is performed almost exclusively in MATLAB/Simulink, with the exceptions being specific client requests or needs. Depending on project tasks and goals, developed models include:

  • Simple table lookup

  • Detailed physics state-based solutions

For real-time applications, SwRI has experience with:

  • QNX machines (real-time operating system) using compiled Simulink models Digital signal processing to communicate with physical hardware devices input and output signal streams

Simulation results help engineers design better vehicle powertrain systems.

Rapid Automotive Performance Simulator (RAPTOR®)

The advanced vehicle technology section recently developed RAPTOR, an award-winning, commercially available vehicle fuel economy and performance software package. More information about RAPTOR can be found at raptor.swri.org, or by viewing the introductory presentation.
