The hydrogen technology information service project will provide a report describing and evaluating the status and future prospect for generating hydrogen for use as an automotive fuel using energy derived from fission nuclear reactors. The work will focus on hydrogen generation and reactor technologies that have a reasonable likelihood of being deployed with the next 50 years in the United States of America (USA). The work will also consider international programs for developing the hydrogen economy in which the USA plays a major role.

The hydrogen technology information service is a program that Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) offers for subscribers to pool together and have SwRI multi-disciplinary researchers investigate technical areas related to hydrogen. The service is typically a year or more in duration, during which time information gathering and extensive research is conducted, resulting in a final report. General areas that the information service could include are:

  • Production of hydrogen

    • Advanced nuclear designs

    • Fossil fuels processing

    • Other chemical processes

    • Electrochemically processes

  • Hydrogen storage and distribution

  • Hydrogen use in producing alternative liquid transportation fuels from hydrogen-deficient feedstocks

  • Use of hydrogen in transportation and stationary applications

    • Fuel cells

    • Internal combustion engines

    • Other energy conversion devices

The service typically looks at time frames in the 10-20 and 25 years into the future and helps subscribers plan for long-term hydrogen implementation.

Past subscription services include:

2007/2008 Hydrogen Technology Information Service

Subscriptions are still available to receive the 2007/2008 Hydrogen Technology Information Service report "Prospects for Generation of Hydrogen as an Automotive Fuel Using Nuclear Fission Reactors in the United States."

2006 Hydrogen Technology Information Service

Subscriptions are still available to receive the 2006 Hydrogen Technology Information Service report "Prospects for Generation of Hydrogen as an Automotive Fuel Using Nuclear Fission Reactors in the United States."
