To optimize the performance and life of vehicle systems and components, engineers at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) analyze a variety of vehicle requirements, including:

  • Kinematics

  • Stability

  • Structural integrity

  • Vibration

  • Noise

  • Modal analysis

SwRI engineers perform complex design work, from design pumps and complete hydraulic systems to complete CVTs (continuously variable transmissions), as well as a range of other vehicle components and systems.

In addition to utilizing customized software and hardware to design a vehicle and its components, engineers use a wide range of specialized techniques, including:

  • Linear and nonlinear finite element analyses

  • Computational fluid dynamics (CFD)

Engineers at SwRI design components for complete powertrain systems.
