Courseware and Performance
The Courseware and Performance Section
provides a wide variety of services across the training spectrum. The
section performs surveys, studies and analyses to support all phases of
training and the Instructional System Development (ISD) process. These
tasks can be accomplished as individual projects or can be included as
part of a larger development effort.
The section’s instructional designers, analysts
and technical specialists work closely with clients and subject matter
experts to carefully define training needs. Once the training objectives
and student audience have been identified, the team can evaluate the best
mix of instructional strategies and proven technologies to develop an
effective training solution.
Instructional materials can be designed for
classroom presentation. These materials consist of lesson plans,
instructor guides, student guides, handouts as well as PowerPoint
presentations and visual aids (both static and interactive). When subject
matter expertise from the client is available, we also facilitate
classroom instruction.
Additionally, the section staff develops and
sustains a wide variety of training materials to be used outside of the
classroom. Each product is based on an established requirement and is
designed and developed to meet the client's training needs. Examples of
these products include self-paced familiarization handbooks, user's
manuals, quick reference guides, continuity guides and structured
on-the-job training guides.
The staff also develops technology-based
applications for on-demand training. The section teams instructional
designers, analysts, and technical specialists work closely with clients
and subject matter experts to carefully define training needs. Once the
training objectives and student audience have been identified, the team
can evaluate the best mix of instructional strategies and proven
technologies to develop an effective training solution. Instructional
designers work with graphic designers and human-computer interface experts
to design a user experience that fosters learning.
Training applications include desktop and embedded
interactive courseware, web-based training, performance support systems
and intelligent tutoring systems. Other research and development areas
include interactive assessment tools, collaborative environments and
tools, synchronous distance learning, web-based applications and
information management systems.
All training and instructional materials are
validated to ensure knowledge transfer and instructional effectiveness as
well as ensuring the training material is learner focused and meets stated
learning objectives
