SwRI offers the oxidation laboratory evaluation method, which determines the oxidation induction time of oil.

Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) offers the oxidation laboratory evaluation (CEC L-85-T-99) method, which determines the oxidation induction time of oil.

ACEA 2004 Specifications

The heavy-duty diesel engine oxidation test is part of ACEA 2004 Specifications:

  • E7-04

CEC L-85-T-99 Test Parameters

A small quantity of oil is weighed into a sample pan and placed in a test cell. The cell is heated to a specified temperature and pressurized with air. The cell is held at a regulated temperature and pressure until an exothermic reaction occurs. The extra-polated onset time is measured and reported as the oxidation induction time.

Pass/Fail Criteria

Pass limits for oxidation induction time are ≥35 minutes.
