Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) offers the Peugeot TU3M valve train scuffing wear test, which evaluates a lubricant's ability to protect an engine's valve train components.

ACEA 2004 Specifications

The Peugeot TU3M valve train scuffing wear test is part of ACEA 2004 Specifications:

Field Service Simulated

The CEC L-38-A-94 test simulates slow and moderate speeds and low-temperature driving.

CEC L-38-A-94 Test Fixture

A Peugeot TU3M 1.3 liter, inline, 4-cyclinder engine mounted on a test stand with a dynamometer is used for this test.

CEC L-38-A-94 Test Parameters

The test runs a 40-hour step at 1,500 rpm with oil and coolant temperatures of 40°C and 45°C, then a 60-hour step at 3,000 rpm with oil and coolant temperatures of 100°C and 90°C.

CEC L-38-A-94 Test Parts Evaluated

The rocker pads are rated for scuffing, and the camshaft lobes are measured for wear.

Used Engine Lubricant Analysis

The oil is sampled and checked at 0, 40, and 100 hours for iron content and fuel dilution.
