Trace Pollutants Analysis

The Trace Pollutants Analysis Laboratory of the Fuels and Lubricants Research Division is actively involved in the development and improvement of methods that detect and quantify pollutants in engine emissions. The high accuracy and low detection limits of these methods provide vital support to the research activities that aim for reducing emission levels in the areas of new engine designs, alternative fuels, and after treatments.

The areas that have been developed are:

  • Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs)
  • Nitro-Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (N-PAHs)

Other areas that are under development are:

  • Phosphorus
  • Sulfur
  • Heavy metals
