Capabilities and Areas of Expertise
Machine Vision

A broad range of expertise, and the interdisciplinary composition of our project teams, provide a synergistic advantage to engineering and development at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI).

Machine Vision

Computer vision engineers have contributed to a wide range of projects that incorporate alternate sensors and computer technologies, including:

  • Data signals integrated from different sensors using sensor fusion
  • Speed monitors using radar and acoustic sensors
  • Distributed computing system for modeling and visualization
  • Enhanced robot control using measured tool-work piece reaction forces
  • Manufacturing process improvement and new process development

Custom Systems

SwRI staff members have supported technology assessments in many areas.  Examples are listed below::

  • Railway crossing monitoring
  • High-voltage power distribution line inspection
  • Sensor technology for industrial process control
  • Materials for new manufacturing processes
  • System or vehicle-animal collision warning
