Using an array of available network technologies, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) network engineers apply experience, proven project management, and design methods to enterprise applications. SwRI engineers work closely with client's staff, thus aiding in understanding the client's:

  • Business model
  • Special needs
  • Short- and long-term goals

SwRI engineers have extensive expertise with communications master plan development.

Producing a high-level plan for integrating infrastructure technology is the first step to a successful deployment. Successfully planning deployments of various system lifecycles includes understanding:

  • Available system components
  • Emerging technology
  • Dominant designs
  • Component interconnectivity

SwRI has successfully guided customers through the turbulent waters of infrastructure deployment including making recommendations to reduce system lifecycle costs and deployment schedule.

On-Call Infrastructure Design Support Services

SwRI fulfills various roles in the design and analysis of network infrastructures. Our technical expertise may be valuable for turn-key system design as well as technical consultation. Under contract, SwRI engineers and their technical expertise can be accessed, as necessary, to assist with small and large tasks supplementing existing design staff.

Requirements Definition and Specification Development

To fully understand bandwidth, redundancy, command and control, and access considerations for a given network it is important to first define system requirements. After defining system requirements and identifying applicable technologies, it may be necessary to develop detailed specifications to be used for equipment procurement. SwRI engineers have the technical expertise to develop these specifications as detailed or as generic as required.

Equipment Interoperability and Performance Testing

After identifying technology applicable to a given network system, it is important to test the equipment for performance and interoperability with other manufacturer's similar equipment. The benefits of multisource equipment are numerous, from competitive procurements to product end-of-life protection. SwRI has the technical expertise and laboratory equipment to thoroughly test various network equipment components.

Server System Design and Integration

Every network requires centralized resources for data exchange. Examples of the multitude of critical network servers that can be found in enterprise networks includes:

  • File sharing
  • Mail
  • Antivirus
  • Automated patching
  • Directory
  • Database
  • Command and control
  • Web

Depending on the network, each service/server requires different hardware specifications to operate efficiently. In addition, each server interacts with others for the system to achieve optimal performance. Operating system environments are constantly changing. SwRI has the skills and resources to:

  • Evaluate existing server systems
  • Recommend best practices for deployment
  • Assist with the integration of turn-key server systems
