Planning communications systems that use existing infrastructures results in reduced deployment costs. Under contract to the City of Fort Worth, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) developed a communications master plan that takes advantage of available cable network bandwidth to provide communications to traffic control devices throughout the city. The design utilizes Data Over Cable System Interface Specification (DOCSIS) and wireless modem technology for data and low-bandwidth video transmission. The resulting communications network design is shown in the figure below.
For more information about communications master plan capabilities at SwRI or how you can contract with SwRI, please contact Mark Moczygemba at mmoczygemba@swri.org or (210) 522-3463. We can offer you the best approach for developing your communications master plan.
