Information is the foundation of an enterprise, and data are the bedrock on which the information an enterprise needs is built. The efficient, accurate, and consistent collection and storage of data are essential to the well being of any enterprise.

The Automation and Data Systems Division of Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) provides expertise in the areas of data collection, representation, and storage, specializing in the development of:

  • On-line transactional databases using relational technology

  • Centralized enterprise databases

  • Distributed databases

  • Operational data stores

  • Data marts and data warehouses

  • Data mining

  • Object-oriented databases

  • Real-time databases

  • Embedded databases

We have staff highly skilled in the facets of database development, including:

  • Analysis and gathering of data requirements

  • Conceptual and logical data modeling

  • Physical database representations and realizations

  • Database integration

  • Database interfaces

  • Physical sizing and performance tuning

Using well-honed design methodologies, we help enterprises develop solid databases and data stores grounded in the practical needs of the organization and its business. Our staff are familiar with the major production database engines in use today.

Our staff members have industry experience in the traditional aspects of normalization and denormalization as well as the latest techniques of flexible and adaptable data representations via generic modeling. Our goal in data technology is to provide our sponsors with solutions best fitted to their data requirements, focusing on practical designs tailored to the genuine needs of the enterprise now and in the future.
