Description: The National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) is a federal initiative to establish up to 15 Institutes for Manufacturing Innovation (IMIs) to transition research and emerging technologies to new products and manufacturing-focused applications. U.S. manufacturers (small, medium, and large) and start-up firms will leverage the IMIs for research, technology, development, laboratory experimentation, education, and workforce development.

Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), in concert with collaborators across Texas, is laying the groundwork to pursue establishment of an IMI, which will link with the proposed NNMI. This IMI is envisioned to focus on robotics and automation related products and technologies for advanced manufacturing, but will also broadly respond to the advanced manufacturing needs of regional and national manufacturers. During the formation stages, the program will be referred to as the Automation Technologies Institute for Manufacturing Innovation (ATIMI).

As an initial step to establish the ATIMI, the founding collaborative will host a workshop on March 1, 2013, in San Antonio, TX, at SwRI headquarters (agenda).

See workshop overview for more details.
