The Materials Development Section of Southwest Research Institute focuses on solving client materials problems through the use of chemical and materials expertise.

The Biomedical Materials Engineering Group at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) uses a broad range of multidisciplinary skills, experience, facilities, and problem-solving ability to develop novel solutions to client needs.

 

Biomedical Device Technology Development Strengths

Technical strengths and abilities in technology development for biomedical devices include:

  • Medical device materials

  • Viscoelastic solutions

  • Accelerated aging

  • Carbohydrate polymers

  • Surface wettability

  • Biomedical materials including novel biodegradables, anti-calcification technology for heart valves, and dental materials

  • Molecular modeling and molecular dynamics

  • Medical device failure analysis

Materials Development

The Materials Development Section of  focuses on solving client materials problems through the use of chemical and materials expertise. The section has approximately 12,000 square feet of laboratory, workshop, and office space housing state-of-the-art equipment for all aspects of soft and hard materials development and analysis.
