Various types of spectroscopic analysis are performed using
Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectrometers. Both instruments are
coupled to microscopes for microspectroscopic investigations. The FTIR is also
capable of attenuated total reflectance (ATR) analysis for probing sample surfaces and is
equipped with a photoacoustic detector (PAD) for polymeric, metallic and ceramic
materials. The Raman instrument is equipped with a fiber-optic probe which can be
used for in-situ sample analysis and has been applied to smart processing of
materials.
