Three-Day Training Course
at SwRI

The next NASGRO short course at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas, is scheduled for April 30–May 2, 2013. Please contact SwRI to register for the next training class.

This course is intended for engineers and scientists with a background in fracture mechanics that wish to become more familiar with the NASGRO suite of fracture mechanics and fatigue crack growth software. The course is taught using both lectures and hands-on example problems. A tentative course outline is provided below.

Course Outline:

Day 1

  • Course overview

  • Theory and background on fatigue crack growth

  • Introduction to NASGRO and the User Interface

  • Overview of geometry library

  • Specifying material properties in NASFLA

  • Load spectrum input

  • Running the analysis and reviewing results

Day 2

  • Load interaction models

  • Failure criteria

  • Advanced load spectrum development

  • Small crack features and analysis

  • Review of limitations for code use

Day 3

  • Material modeling in NASMAT

  • Additional example problems

Tuition:

Tuition for the three-day course is $1750.
For members of the NASGRO Industrial Consortium, tuition is $875.
Tuition covers a copy of the course notes, refreshments during the day, lunches and a course dinner for all attendees on the first day.

The maximum class size is 21 attendees, based on one student per available training computer. Registration is first come, first served, based on the order that payment is received. We anticipate the course reaching capacity quickly. Your registration in the course is confirmed only after you have paid the tuition in full.

Refunds will be provided for registrants unable to attend the course ONLY if written notification is provided to Alberta Matthews no later than 30 days prior to the course. In the unlikely event of insufficient registration, Southwest Research Institute reserves the right to cancel the course no later than 30 days prior to the course.

SwRI engineers have provided NASGRO training to more than 500 students in short courses conducted both at SwRI in San Antonio and on-site at individual customer locations.

NASGRO Training at Your Facility:

The SwRI short course team is available to present the NASGRO short course at your site upon request. Costs to present the course at your site depend on course duration, location and facilities; these fees support the actual expenses of staff time, travel, and reproduction of course materials. The content of the course can be tailored to your specific needs.
