A one-stop engineering and evaluation organization for NEBS (Telcordia Network Equipment-Building System) compliance testing is available at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). All NEBS evaluations are performed on frame-level and shelf-level equipment, in one location. Additionally, clients can draw on the talents of SwRI's 3,300 employees and 11 technical divisions for help in just about any engineering or testing area imaginable. As an independent, nonprofit organization, SwRI strives to serve its clients and makes an ideal business partner for you!


NEBS Mission

To aid industry in providing highly reliable telecommunications service to the consumer so that continuous operation is assured during emergency calls for police, fire, and medical service, even in the geographical areas prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes.

 

Telecommunications Equipment Testing at SwRI

SwRI is a nonprofit research and development organization that has received accreditation by OSHA as a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). This accreditation includes testing and third-party quality assurance services. SwRI has decades of experience and extensive facilities to provide independent, comprehensive testing and engineering services to the telecommunications industry.


SwRI has performed physical environmental testing for more than 20 years for commercial industries and the military, meeting MIL-Specs and widely recognized standards, including:

  • IEEE

  • ANSI

  • ASTM

  • ISO

SwRI has also been designated as a Verizon ITL (Independent Test Lab). During the last decade, services have been provided to meet telecommunications standards and specifications such as:

  • Bellcore

  • ETSI

  • IEC

  • ISO

SwRI Quality Systems

Quality systems are in place at SwRI to comply with:

  • ISO 9000: 1994

  • ISO 9000: 2000

  • ISO Guide 25/ISO 17025

  • Nuclear requirements

Equipment used to perform testing activities is calibrated with traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and controlled to comply with MIL-STD-45662A, ISO Guide 25/ISO 17025, and ANSI/NCSL Z540.


Test personnel are qualified and certified to perform activities complying with stringent nuclear and DOD/NASA quality assurance programs.


SwRI fiercely protects its third-party independent status to assure the highest respect and integrity.
