Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) evaluations conducted at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) for conducted, radiated, electromagnetic emissions (EME), and electromagnetic interference (EMI) using screen rooms, anechoic chambers, and an open-air test site as required by GR-1089-CORE. Effects of electrostatic discharge to equipment, equipment grounding, and equipment immunity to power transients are evaluated.

Key Benefits of EMC Testing

  • Accreditation of electromagnetic compatibility research lab by American Association of Laboratory

  • Accreditation (A2LA) for ISO Guide 25 (EN45001)

  • Certification of EMCR staff by National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers Inc. (NARTE) on certified EMC engineers and technicians

EMC Testing Capabilities

A description of the GR-1089-CORE tests that are performed at SwRI follows:

Immunity tests

  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD)

  • Radiated immunity

  • Conducted immunity

  • Short circuit (tip & ring)

  • Lightning transients

  • Current-limiting protection

  • AC power fault immunity

Emissions tests

  • Radiated emissions, E-field and H-field

  • Conducted emissions on AC/DC power leads and signal leads

EMC Evaluations

  • Electrical safety

  • Bonding and grounding

  • Corrosion

  • DC potential difference
