Featured in Technology Today, SwRI developed a new technique for determining the incoming direction of radiation and measuring angular radiation flux. The technique can generate tomographic maps of radionuclide concentration on the ground surface from aerial radiation measurements at finer spatial resolution than existing technologies.

Risk assessment services technical strengths at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) include:

  • Environmental risk and hazard assessment
  • Probabilistic performance assessment and risk analysis
  • Sensitivity and uncertainty analysis
  • Risk assessment software development
  • Integrated safety assessments

Technical Strengths in Radiation Health Physics

  • Contaminant exposure pathway, dose assessment and dose reconstruction
  • Airborne transport of radioactivity
  • Radiation monitoring and instrumentation
  • Decommissioning and decontamination
  • Safety criticality and radiation shielding
  • Spent fuel characterization
