A cross-disciplinary team of geologists and planetary scientists is tackling some of the complex questions in planetary geology. Our technical expertise, technologies, and laboratory capabilities allow Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) scientists to conduct research ranging from computer modeling to field investigations. Specific areas of research include:
Mars
- Structural analyses of the Martian crust in a variety of tectonic settings
- Geologic and hydrologic investigations of past surface and groundwater flow
- Physical analog modeling of faulting and fault-related processes
- Computer modeling of multi-phase water under Martian conditions
- Geophysical surveys and geological analyses of terrestrial sites as analogs to Mars
Ganymede (an icy moon of Jupiter)
Eros (a near-Earth asteroid)
