Quality Assurance Services
Quality System Development
SwRI's highly trained staff assists in modifying
existing quality systems or developing new systems to meet various specifications such as
ISO, nuclear, DOD, NASA, FDA and EPA. This would also include training the customer's
staff members to the new system requirements. In addition, assessments and evaluations can
be performed to validate compliance with such systems.
Quality Manual and Procedures Review and Development
Experienced SwRI QA staff members review and
consult on existing systems and procedures to improve processes, upgrade systems to new
specifications, or to prepare for registration/accreditation surveys.
Quality Assurance Engineering
QA engineering services include designing document
reviews, QA specification reviews, pre-award and supplier surveys, inspection planning,
failure analysis and corrective action, development of contract-specific quality plans,
and management reviews.
Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM)
Engineering
SwRI has extensive experience in RAM engineering
and safety hazards analysis for the military, the aerospace and petroleum industries,
consumer products, and power, process, and medical equipment. The RAM group addresses
various needs, from designing reliability and maintainability into new devices, to
functional element reliability analyses, to probability synthesis for probabilistic risk
assessment. Extensive reliability engineering programs are applied to components used in
critical applications to assure performance in hostile environments, such as long-duration
space missions.
Audit, Inspection, and Surveillance
Audit, inspection, and surveillance services
typically include quality system review, source and site inspections, internal and
supplier audits, and receiving and in-process QC inspections. Detailed in-process
inspections are carefully planned and integrated with the production schedule at
appropriate stages. These inspections verify compliance to specifications before
components are made inaccessible by further processing.
Training and Qualification
Training and qualification programs are tailored
to customer needs and can be held at SwRI or at customer facilities.
Software Quality Assurance and Configuration Management
In-process reviews and surveillance activities can
be scheduled as appropriate to the complexity or critical nature of the software to assure
compliance with standards such as ISO 9000-3, DOD-STD-498, ANSI/ASME NQA-2a, and SEI CMM.
Calibration Services
The Institute Calibration Laboratory is accredited
to ISO/IEC 17025-1999 "General Requirements for Competence of Testing and
Calibration Laboratories" by the American Association for Laboratory
Accreditation (A2LA). Laboratories that comply with this International Standard
also operate in accordance with ISO 9001 or ISO 9002 (1994). This laboratory
also meets the requirements of ANSI/NCSL Z540-1-1994 and any additional program
requirements in the field of calibration.
