Heart pacemaker electronics include microprocessors that control the pacemaker, which subsequently controls the patient's heartbeat.
Physicians can communicate with the pacemaker's microprocessors noninvasively. The procedure, called pacemaker programming, uses a separate device to transmit commands to the implanted unit. This device allows the physician to modify the pacemaker therapy to match the changing needs of the patient.
