SwRI® Science and Engineering Guest Speakers Program
The Southwest Research Institute® (SwRI)
Science and Engineering Guest Speakers Program provides university and college campuses across Texas with
visiting lecturers
knowledgeable in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering,
computer science, materials science, and other disciplines. To request more
information about this program or to request a speaker, contact
us.
Technical Fields:
Chemistry and Chemical Engineering
SwRI performs research and technical services for industrial and government clients using chemistry and chemical engineering technology. Some of the disciplines covered are environmental engineering, chemical and process engineering, microencapsulation,
polymer and material sciences, chemical demilitarization, fire testing, and
analytical services. Register and view the available speakers in this technical area.

Computer Science
Continuing a long tradition of government and
industry support, SwRI staff members provide design and development services in
computer science for the definition, development, and maintenance of complex
systems and equipment. Engineers and technicians also provide expertise in the
development of sophisticated training and simulation systems for military and
civilian clients. Register and view the available speakers in this technical area.

Electrical Engineering
SwRI provides engineering expertise in designing and
developing automated systems used by industry and government. Staff engineers
provide products for aircraft, support equipment, and training, and also design
and implement software products, intelligent transportation systems, automated
manufacturing systems, industrial engineering solutions, and communications
electronics. Register and view the available speakers in this technical area.

Materials Science
Materials research, development, and testing
activities at the Institute include formulating and synthesizing new materials,
evaluating material performance under service conditions, and assessing the
remaining useful life of critical components and structures.

Mechanical Engineering
SwRI is internationally recognized for its
engineering dynamics, structures, materials, and fluids systems programs. The
Institute’s mission is to improve the safety, reliability, efficiency, and life
of new or existing mechanical components or systems for the economic benefit of
its clients.
The Institute offers internationally recognized
research and testing capabilities for engines, fuels, lubricants, and vehicle
systems, and provides not only product testing, but also support in the design
and development of new systems. Register and view the available speakers in this technical
area.

Physics
SwRI uses physics in many of its research projects
and technical services for clients. The Institute conducts research and
development in disciplines such as advanced electronic and microelectronic
devices and systems, unique power supplies and sources, special-purpose voice
and data communications equipment, and mechanical systems. SwRI also continues
its research in space science and the development of innovative spacecraft
instrumentation and systems. Strong theoretical and observational research
programs are maintained in the fields of solar physics, space physics, planetary
science, and stellar astronomy. Register and view the available speakers in this
technical area.

Technology Management
Southwest Research Institute is an independent,
nonprofit, applied engineering and physical sciences research and development
organization devoted to technology development and transfer. The Institute
performs more than 1,000 research programs each year.
