Research ScientistChemistry & Chemical Engineering Division GS-07F-6087PQUALIFICATIONS: TThe research scientist must have completed a four-year college degree from an accredited university in a scientific discipline, and have two years of technical experience or its equivalent. A Master's degree plus one year of experience, or a Doctorate with no experience is considered equivalent. The individual should demonstrate a meaningful level of technical accomplishments. Completion of the SwRI promotion and project management courses is desirable. RESPONSIBILITIES: The research scientist positions are important to the technical staff in their contribution to the accomplishment of specific tasks in research, development, and test projects. The research scientist is distinguished from entry level by having obtained significant experience-based competence in research and development activities, including technical contributions to projects, analyses of research and development objectives for proposals and projects, and effective contributions to proposals, as well as the ability to establish performance objectives for themselves and others and manage a project phase. Emphasis at this level is on the development of skills as a fully competent project team member, the development of individual technical specializations, and the development of abilities to innovatively support technical objectives. The research scientist performs work involving conventional investigations within a science specialty; designs experiments, surveys, structures, software, and equipment applying standard scientific theories, concepts, and techniques and for which precedents have been established. He or she conducts process and analytical studies and models scientific phenomenon and problems. Schedule
