QUALIFICATIONS:   An Assistant Technical Specialist will have a four-year college degree from an accredited university in a non-scientific or non-engineering field such as instructional technology, communications, human factors, or industrial arts. In this initial assignment, the individual must demonstrate an ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment, diligence, and attention to detail and must demonstrate an aptitude for carrying out responsible assignments without immediate supervision. The Assistant Technical Specialist will work with the clients, software engineers, project and task managers, and the user population to devise the optimum solutions for initial and sustained support.

RESPONSIBILITIESThe Assistant Technical Specialist position is generally an entry-level position for a newly graduated professional in a non-engineering or scientific discipline. For non-degreed staff, experience, knowledge, and ability in a certain field of specialization will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis but should generally be equivalent to that obtained through a four-year degree. The Assistant Technical Specialist will have knowledge of advanced systems and applications of new technology in their field of specialization. The Assistant Technical Specialist will work in project teams, completing tasks in their discipline and presenting information to clients. The Assistant Technical Specialist will have hands-on experience with PC applications to accomplish their objectives, such as word processing tools, graphics programs, computer-based training tools, and logistics and planning tools. The Assistant Technical Specialist will participate in systems, databases and network design programs primarily within Aerospace applications.
