QUALIFICATIONS: The Executive Director demonstrates the ability to successfully lead a major business activity and attain technical and business objectives. Through prior management experience, the executive director should have shown the ability to successfully build a program and lead research personnel at all levels. An engineering or science degree appropriate for the division activities is normally required. The individual should have completed the Institute supervisory training program and attended university-level management training courses or other similar training. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Executive Directors are responsible for the overall quality of the technical and/or administrative work of their departments, promotional activity, financial well being of the departments, and the employment and development of a competent staff.
The executive director:
- Manages and leads significant program areas in the Institute's technical or administrative divisions.
- Leads in the successful promotion and execution of technical or administrative areas and programs consistent with the mission of the Division and the Institute.
- Is directly responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the work of a research program area including maintenance of satisfactory utilization, staffing, project assignments, assignment of program tasks, evaluation of performance, discipline, salary administration, staff career development, implementation of Institute policy, integration of staff with other activities, and interaction and cooperation with other departments and divisions in achieving Institute objectives.
