QUALIFICATIONS: The individual at this level must have achieved true eminence in his or her field through technical accomplishments as reported in peer review publications, invited papers, patents, appointment to national committees, election to professional society positions, and an outstanding record of achievement at the Institute, including obtaining externally funded programs for clients. Scientific creativeness and competence are not sufficient without recognition by professional contemporaries. In the Automation and Data Systems Division, a Doctoral degree in computer science or a related field is required. Individuals should also have led the development and training of junior staff in their areas of expertise. RESPONSIBILITIES:
An Institute Scientist has achieved the highest level of expertise in his or her field at the Institute, and will provide the highest level of technical guidance available in information system design and development. They are well versed in the latest emerging technologies and can develop innovative solutions that will provide the latest in hardware/software technology.
Responsibilities in the Automation and Data Systems Division include:
- Providing engineering creativeness and competence to information systems products.
- Develops and presents professional products and data for information systems products.
- Reviews technical data and products developed by Institute staff.
- Providing professional technical guidance to high-level management at the Institute.
- Provides technical development and training to Institute junior staff.
- Develops and presents technical papers and products for professional publications and conferences.
