QUALIFICATIONS:   This is a consulting position within the Institute. Individuals must have established a reputation for technical excellence and be able to provide guidance to middle and top management in their areas of expertise.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Serves as mentor to junior staff and adviser to more senior project managers. Often fulfills principal level researcher responsibilities.

In the Automation and Data Systems Division, this individual performs the following functions:

  • Provides technical assistance and guidance on complex engineering projects or issues. 
  • Mentors junior staff in respective technical areas of expertise. 
  • Provides guidance to management in areas of expertise and research trends. 
  • May serve as project manager on small and large projects. 
  • Leads technical teams in providing technical solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Advises senior management on financial and administrative issues.
