QUALIFICATIONS:  The Assistant Vice President demonstrates the ability to successfully lead a major business activity and attain technical and business objectives. Through prior management experience, this individual should have shown the ability to successfully build a program and lead research personnel at all levels. An engineering or science degree appropriate for the Space Science and Engineering Division is required. The individual should have completed the Institute supervisory training program and attended university-level management training courses or other similar training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  In the Space Science and Engineering Division, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) manages and leads engineering activities. The AVP is responsible for the overall quality of the technical work and promotional activity, and the employment and development of a competent staff. The AVP is responsible to the vice president for the success of their business unit.

The Assistant Vice President in the Space Science and Engineering Division is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the work, including maintenance of satisfactory utilization, staffing, project assignments, assignment of program tasks, evaluation of performance, discipline, salary administration, staff career development, implementation of Institute policy, integration of staff with other activities, and interaction and cooperation with other departments and divisions in achieving common objectives.
