QUALIFICATIONS: A Staff
Technician must have a minimum of ten years experience in a technical
support position, and a high school or equivalent education. An
Associate's degree is highly desired. This individual must possess
in-depth skills and expertise in a specialty field and the ability to
provide key support to scientific and engineering and project personnel. RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior Technician possesses in-depth skills and expertise in a
specialty field and provides key support to scientific and engineering
and other project personnel. This individual may have direct
administrative or project development responsibilities, and will
exercise considerable latitude in carrying out technical instructions in
selecting, adapting, and modifying standard procedures. Work requires a
minimum of supervision, and incumbents may perform independent tasks or
projects.
In the Space Science and Engineering Division, an individual at this
level performs the following functions:
- Takes a leading role in data acquisition,
test set up, design of special test apparatus and other aspects of
laboratory efforts on a project.
- Installs hardware for development and test
environments on large software projects.
- Installs necessary software on development
and test hardware.
- Works network, firewall and security issues
for joint development projects.
- Performs Project backups for the development
and test environments.
- Reviews data for accuracy and relevance.
- Designs and builds special test fixtures.
- Works independently to obtain data or
construct special test apparatus based on instructions from engineering
staff.
- May write standard test reports or input
sections to larger reports.
