QUALIFICATIONS:  An Assistant Technical Specialist will have a four-year college degree from an accredited university in a non-scientific or non-engineering field such has instructional technology, communications, human factors, or industrial arts. In this initial assignment, the individual must demonstrate an ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment, diligence, and attention to detail and must demonstrate an aptitude for carrying out responsible assignments without immediate supervision. Specialist will work with the clients, engineers/scientist/analyst, project and task managers, and the user population to devise the optimum solutions for initial and sustained support for Signal Exploitation & Geolocation related projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  An individual at this level has the following responsibilities supporting Direction Finding, Signal Acquisition, and Electronic Warfare program research and development:

  • Works in a project team requiring an application of established techniques, procedures and system concepts in carrying out a sequence of related tasks.
  • Selects and uses computer-based tools to accomplish signal exploitation and geolocation related technology project goals.
  • Contributes ideas for new projects and/or activities to provide full support for users of signal exploitation and geolocation related technology solutions.
  • Provides instruction and supervision to technical support and administrative support staff.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in writing and verbal presentation skills, and mastery of computer software and hardware common to their technical field of specialization.
  • Becomes an effective, productive, professional team member knowledgeable of the project team approach, and has tasks according to contracts.
