QUALIFICATIONS:  Incumbent should have knowledge of complex blueprints, engineering drawings or equipment schematics, custom sample preparation, and testing procedures peculiar to a field of effort; basic engineering or scientific principles relative to the field of technical support, design, and fabrication of engineering and scientific testing apparatus; test data manipulation; and maintenance and repair of specialized equipment. The research areas of concentration are for signal exploitation and geolocation project initiatives. They should also have the ability to supervise subordinate technical support staff effectively in completion of project activities and communicate well with scientific and engineering staff. New employees should have a high school or equivalent education and a combination of five to ten years of continuing education, or trade school and/or related experience. An Associate’s degree is preferred at this level. Validated tests are given to determine level of knowledge and skill in a particular field.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  An individual at this level has the following responsibilities supporting Direction Finding, Signal Acquisition, and Electronic Warfare program research and development:

  • Uses personal discretion and knowledge, constructs components, subunits, models, and adaptations of standard equipment.
  • Troubleshoots problems with test equipment and components and corrects or secures appropriate service for repair.
  • Installs hardware for development and test environments on large software projects
  • Installs necessary software on development and test hardware
  • Performs Project backups for the development and test environments.
