SwRI selected for military Information Operations contract

Engineering services contract worth up to $48.5 million

San Antonio -- November 9, 1998 -- Southwest Research Institute® (SwRI®) has been awarded an engineering services contract, worth up to $48.5 million over the next five years, to support military Information Operations by the Joint Command and Control Warfare Center, headquartered at Kelly Air Force Base.

Information Operations involves all aspects of both offensive and defensive activities related to information transfer, such as electronic countermeasures, computer security, and psychological operations.

As one of three prime contractors selected to offer engineering services through September 30, 2003, San Antonio-based SwRI will work with seven subcontractors to help the joint military command identify needs and solve information operations problems, said Roy Thompson, director of the Communications Engineering Department in the Institute's Automation and Data Systems Division.

Subcontractors are Aegis Research Corporation, Falls Church, Virginia; Systems Engineering Operations, Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corporation, Boulder, Colorado; bd Systems Inc., Torrance, California; Computer Sciences Corporation Systems, Engineering Division, Falls Church, Virginia; Northrop Grumman Corporation's Defensive Systems Division, Rolling Meadows, Illinois; Science Applications International Corporation, San Diego, California; and Syracuse Research Corporation, North Syracuse, New York.
