Southwest Research Institute will host 2001 Aerospace Coatings Removal and Coatings Conference

San Antonio -- March 19, 2001 -- The 2001 Aerospace Coatings Removal and Coatings Conference, hosted for the first time by Southwest Research Institute® (SwRI®), will be held May 22-24, 2001, in San Antonio, Texas. More than 250 military and commercial aircraft fleet maintenance and operations personnel, researchers, technological developers, and original equipment manufacturers are expected to attend the conference, which focuses on technical and management issues important to both the military and industry.

The event, formerly known as the DoD/Industry Aerospace Coatings Conference, includes approximately 30 technical presentations, 40 exhibitors, and a half-day tour of SwRI research facilities.

"This year's conference will provide a technical forum that brings together the user with the technical and commercial community who are working to develop solutions for issues pertaining to aerospace coatings removal and coatings," said Chuck Cundiff, 2001 Aerospace Coatings Removal and Coatings Conference organizer at SwRI. "This industry is pushed by the need to meet Environmental Protection Agency and other environmental requirements, while maintaining cost efficient aerospace maintenance operations including coatings removal and coatings."

Technical presentations are being selected by SwRI, the U.S. Air Force Corrosion Prevention and Control Office, and the U.S. Air Force Coatings Technology Integration Office and include success stories, paint removal techniques and coating application practices on military and commercial aircraft, technology updates, environmental regulation impacts, and assessment of future technology requirements.

Presentations will address coatings removal processes, including plastic blast media, water, chemical, laser, hand-held or spot, and selective stripping; media for coating removal; coatings materials; equipment upgrades and designs; and ergonomic improvements.

Register in advance on the internet at dodconf.swri.org or by calling (210) 522-3263 by April 20, 2001. Registration is $300 for attendees and exhibitors.
