SwRI to host 2005 Aerospace Coatings Removal and Coatings Conference

San Antonio -- July 7, 2005 -- Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) will host the 2005 Aerospace Coatings Removal and Coatings Conference Aug. 30 - Sept. 1, in San Antonio.

The annual conference features technical presentations, exhibits, and other events and attracts military and commercial aircraft fleet maintenance and operations personnel, researchers, technological developers and original equipment manufacturers. The conference will provide sessions on success stories, paint removal techniques, new technology updates, environmental regulation impacts and an assessment of future technology requirements.

"For the 2005 conference, we plan to expand our involvement with other branches of the Department of Defense and enhance the experience of the forum for the participants," said Chuck Cundiff, 2005 Aerospace Coatings Removal and Coatings Conference organizer at SwRI. "This year's focus includes relevant presentations such as laser-based coatings removal, improved preparation methods and advances in the efforts to improve aerospace coatings without impacting environmental integrity."

Compliance with federal and state environmental regulations remains a challenge for the coatings removal and coatings industry. The challenge is for industry to meet stringent Environmental Protection Agency requirements while also operating cost-effectively, according to Cundiff, a senior research technologist and lead for SwRI's Warner Robins Air Logistics Center Depaint Test Center operations.

SwRI is hosting the conference in cooperation with the U.S. Air Force Corrosion Prevention and Control Office and the U.S. Air Force Coatings Technology Integration Office. Representatives from the three organizations have selected the technical presentations.

SwRI has extensive experience in the evaluation of aircraft coatings, application and removal techniques, and paint testing.

Early registration is $275 through Aug. 9; registration will then increase to $300. The registration fee includes technical sessions, exhibits, receptions, refreshments and a copy of the proceedings. Rooms are available at special conference rates of $91 per night at the Marriott Riverwalk by calling 1-800-648-4462.
