San Antonio -- Feb. 26, 2008 -- J. Dan Bates, president of Southwest Research Institute, announced the election of Wayne S. Alexander and John C. Korbell to chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of the Board of Directors during SwRI's annual meeting today.
Alexander retired in August 2002 as president of SBC Southwestern Bell. He joined the SwRI Board in 2001 and has served as vice chairman since 2005.
Korbell is managing director-Wealth Management and senior investment management consultant for Smith Barney, San Antonio. Korbell became an SwRI trustee in 2000 and a Board member in 2004.
In other actions at the meeting, Alexander announced the election of one new Board member: Jeanie R. Wyatt, CEO and chief investment officer, South Texas Money Management Ltd., San Antonio.
Alexander also announced the addition of eight trustees. They are Dr. C. Mauli Agrawal, dean, College of Engineering, The University of Texas at San Antonio; Curtis V. Anastasio, president and CEO, NuStar Energy L.P., San Antonio; Kenneth E. Arnold, P.E., N.A.E., K. Arnold Consulting Inc., Houston; Richard B. Curtin, executive vice president-operations (retired), SwRI; William R. Klesse, CEO, Valero Energy, San Antonio; H. Leighton Steward, vice chairman (retired), Burlington Resources Inc., Boerne, Texas; Clarence R. "Reggie" Williams, president and CEO, San Antonio Area Foundation; and Gary Woods, president and CEO, McCombs Enterprises, San Antonio.
The re-election of Institute officers also was announced. SwRI officers are J. Dan Bates, president; Walter D. Downing, executive vice president; John F. Sprencel, CFO, senior vice president-Finance and Institute secretary; Beth Ann Rafferty, treasurer and assistant Institute secretary; and John W. McLeod, vice president and general counsel.
Also re-elected were Senior Vice President Walter P. Groff, Office of Automotive Engineering; and Vice Presidents Dr. Robert L. Bass, Mechanical and Materials Engineering; Dr. James L. Burch, Space Science and Engineering; Nigel F. Gale, Engine, Emissions and Vehicle Research; Dr. Katharine C. Golas, Training, Simulation and Performance Improvement; Pat Griffith, Facilities and Services; Dr. William G. Guion, Signal Exploitation and Geolocation; Leslie B. Hoffman, Automation and Data Systems; Dr. Amos E. Holt, Environmental, Safety and Quality Systems; Dr. Michael G. MacNaughton, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; Edward D. Moore, Applied Physics; Dr. Wesley C. Patrick, Geosciences and Engineering; and Richard D. Somers, Aerospace Electronics and Information Technology.
