Research Scientist/Scientist
(Hydrologic Flow)

SUMMARY:  Read reports and complete assessments to determine if surface waters and aquifers have been adequately characterized, if proposed actions (such as uranium recovery operations) may result in contamination of surfaces waters or aquifers, and whether proposed groundwater restoration methods are likely to be successful; execute computer models to predict groundwater flow patterns and predict possible contaminant distributions; assist senior staff in conducting numerical investigations of flow and transport predictions and assist in conducting experiments, as required; document results of investigations and reviews in company and client reports, and peer reviewed literature when appropriate; present and/or assist in presenting results of investigations and reviews to clients.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  Requires a BS degree in Science, Engineering, Agriculture or a related field with 0-5 years experience conducting hydrogeologic or environmental projects or a MS degree in Hydrology or a related field. Must have at least a 3.5 GPA. Requires a demonstrated understanding of saturated-zone flow and transport phenomena and the ability to apply that knowledge to assess whether surface and subsurface hydrologic features have been characterized properly and whether proposed hydrologic activities will likely be successful in achieving their objectives; experience using hydrologic flow models is desired, as well as an ability to use advanced numerical computer models; good communication skills, both written and verbal, are needed; an understanding of unsaturated-zone (i.e, vadose zone) phenomena also is preferred. A valid/clear driver’s license is required.

 

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  NOTE: All applicants must pass a conflict of interest evaluation and be qualified for an NRC Clearance. This is a one year limited term assignment with possible extension.
