SUMMARY: Use advanced computational and experimental techniques and facilities to address a wide range of biomechanics and biomaterials issues; apply advanced probabilistic mechanics and reliability methods to investigate how uncertainties associated with biological systems affect predictions of musculoskeletal performance and functionality; develop and apply non-linear constitutive models of biological materials; conduct non-invasive characterization of bone damage and porosity and micromechanical investigations of tissue deformation, damage, and mechanotransduction; develop and analyze numerical models of biomechanical structures, soft tissue, and related structures; conduct computational/experimental engineering analysis; participate and eventually lead individual and collaborative research projects as well as develop, promote and write proposals for research programs; interact with commercial and government clients; write and present reports and technical papers.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Requires a MS or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Biomedical Engineering or related field with graduate studies or research experience in computational biomechanics. Must have at least a 3.5 GPA. Must have experience in developing finite element models of musculoskeletal structures, or performing experimental studies on biomaterials and biological tissues; familiarity with developing and performing complex numerical analyses of complex structures; knowledge of commercial software (ABAQUS, LS-DYNA, ProEngineer, TrueGrid, FORTRAN, and LabView); excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a team environment as well as individually; experience in uncertainty analysis or probabilistic mechanics desired. A valid/clear driver’s license is required.
