Research Engineer/Senior Research Engineer
(Robotics)

SUMMARY:  Apply engineering skills to factory automation, electro-mechanical system design, robotics (both mobile platforms and serial manipulators), controls, sensing systems, motion control, and manufacturing process improvement; lead research and development teams in robotic technologies; provide direction and vision for technical work areas; assist with promoting and fostering customer-funded work though meetings, presentations, conferences, and papers; participate in field installation, testing, and debugging; develop proposals and program cost estimates; perform computer-aided design, engineering analysis, and software design and development; oversee procurement, fabrication, and testing of automation systems; document activities and produce written reports on project status, cost and schedule; make technical and marketing presentations to customers; work in a team environment.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  Requires a PhD in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related fields with 0 -10 years related experience with a research focus in robotic technologies. Must have at least a 3.5 GPA. Must have demonstrated innovation and leadership in industrial or mobile robotics; must possess expertise in broad robotic technologies such as kinematic and dynamic modeling, advanced sensing systems, and electo-mechanical design; capabilities in perception technologies such as 2D and 3D machine vision, LIDAR, and force feedback desirable; experience with cognitive methods such simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), object recognition, and knowledge representation desirable; experience with manufacturing equipment or machine and/or product design desired; proficiency with solid modeling software, such as SolidWorks desired; experience with industrial electrical controls desirable; experience with software development with application development on industrial robot controllers desired; experience with PLC programming, Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming, LabVIEW, and Matlab desired. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
