SUMMARY: Perform fuel testing on experimental gasoline and diesel blends predominately in automotive fleet and mileage accumulation dynamometer facilities; maintain working relationships with clients in accomplishment of project objectives; develop innovative solutions to project problems and expand laboratory capabilities; provide project leadership in the performance of tests to customer’s specifications; use engineering practices to ensure test procedure compliance; plan, coordinate and control assigned projects; develop and report technical and financial details to clients and management; resolve a variety of engineering issues related to testing; optimize and improve laboratory equipment and procedures; ensure projects are completed on time and within budget; communicate effectively with clients and staff; summarize test data and complete written reports; interact with laboratory and staff during project activity; interface with support groups in handling contractual, legal, accounting, fabrication and purchasing requirements; participate in proposal efforts and promotional presentations; assume responsibility for quality improvements/initiatives.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Requires a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with six months experience. Co-Op or summer work term experience desired. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Knowledge and interest in passenger cars and light trucks; some hands on experience as well as academic interest and abilities; desire to lead other people in the project effort; desire and ability to ensure that the client gets good customer service from SwRI; ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision; must have good written, verbal and presentation skills; experience with PC-based presentation, spreadsheet, and word processing software; automotive interest and experience with passenger cars and light trucks is desired; have a desire to give clients good customer service, with careful attention to detail; project leadership aptitude and experience desired; be self-motivated and highly organized; must have desire to lead other people and coordinate their efforts; must be able to multi-task between different projects and work independently with a minimal amount of supervision. A valid/clear driver’s license is required.
